Most Unlikely

Ever had story that you take out almost every day trying to finish it but you are just never happy with how it turns out? Every day you put it away more frustrated than you were before you started it. That is me with one specific story that I have been working on for a few weeks now. I realize that a few weeks is not that long to be ready to give up on a story already, but I am getting to the point where I have walked away from it and come back several times, and every time the same thing happens. I read it, I change a few things, then I change a few things back, then I read it again, then I sigh. Then I put it away.

I wonder to myself, will this ever become a story? Will I ever be able to finish it? I do not know the answers to these questions but what I do know is throughout writing this failed story I have been inspired to write many more successful ones. I guess if all this failed story ever is is a pathway to other stories then I will continue to struggle with it, because sometimes inspiration can come from the most unlikely of places.

Have you tried to just write? Pick up where you left off or started and just write. Put down when done, come back another day. In between pick ups, write down notes, and ideas for your story.

    • Normally when I cannot think of any ideas right away, I will end up writing a “talking to myself story” until another idea comes to me. Usually it works pretty well because it doesn’t take long for another idea find me, other times I end up giving up and trying again later.

Try writing “ending one.” Then try “ending two.” And so on until you find the ending that works. If you view the endings as options, then you don’t have to feel so committed to just one and you can just pick the one that ends up feeling the best. Kind of like dating before marriage but with story endings. 🙂 Just a suggestion, of course. 🙂
